Greasewood Flat satisfies any yearnings for the times when a hard working hand could eat up in peace around a campfire, hard liquor scraping the gullet to go with charred chops and ash laden beans.

Hard working dudes can still dream it up in this old desert party bunkhouse more than a century old. Hearty burgers and hot dogs, open-air grilled like they should, pair with cowboy beans, nachos, and chili. No sissy sauces to ruin them all.

Burgers are 90% free of fat. When culprits are caught, no doubt
they will pay.

Outside picnic tables rule, bare and hard. Live music shows are allowed on weekends, and desert campfires warm up cold beer drinkers when evenings are cold.

Marshmallows show up once in a while, roasted and sweet. No weaknes, folks, John Wayne would have approved
a campfire cowboy sweet tooth.

From its third floor location, 301 has a vantage place to watch the Arizona sunset and the Mill Avenue buzz in between libations and mutual enjoyment.

A corner fireplace in a large patio terrace invites to partying outside, lounging on white round beds, nursing conversation and drinks around square tables, or contemplating the street and the sky perched on bar stools at the counter that lines one edge of the terrace. VIP areas like small sitting rooms behind sheer white curtains bestow VIP feelings.

All kinds of beers fuel the joyful moods; but the Drinks with Altitude martinis steal the bar show looking like jewels with their intense, sparkling colors.

This is a nightclub. Count on loud and festive DJ mixed sounds to go with the loud and festive people who sits or stands around each other or around the girls who give it a go at the dancing poles.

This is a sushi place with a modern Tokyo attitude. A bold neon sign announces its presence inviting to cross the well-lit entry space.

Inside, running water walls, river rocks, bamboo floors, and jellyfish tanks invite to far-East relaxation, while neon ambient lights and enticing cocktails are luring more up-beating moods. That’s were the watch and be watched action is on weekends.

Plenty of sushi, sashimi, and other delicacies like Kobe beef and lobster dumplings keep the human power-source going and happy.

For a more quiet evening, Teppan Yaki tables carry on their own show of slicing and grilling in the back dining area. Be loud or be quiet, Zen can be reached here.

clubby music.

Assorted cocktails and other drinks lead in the izakaya lounge atmosphere to be experienced with anything from an extensive list of specialty sushi rolls, tempuras, and satays.

Sharing menu space with ribs, calamari and more hefty yaki plates, Lotus offers some extras like a lobster appearance in miso soup, salad, and tempura.

It looks large and grand from the outside. It’s large and grand
in the inside.

Private parties in their own private rooms, are treated like the VIPs they are. Smokers are happy in their own Smoking area without fear of withdrawal.

To the strike of ten, the large dining room under a high dome changes to a steamy dance club for partying until early in the morning, vigor permitting. From varied specials, paella, fish and great steaks, to high-energy dancing with a tick of the clock.

If the live, loud music gets in the way of sweet whispers, the cooing can move to tapas and drinks in the comfortable outside patio lounge.

No need for a cottage in Provence or the Costwolds
for lunch or dinner on the garden, dahling! House of Tricks takes its guests to the bucolic charm of properly set tables under the shade of grape vines, surrounded by trellises and rose bushes.

Refined pastoral fantasies fully materialize when orders arrive flaunting modern touches over solid French cuisine techniques. The quiche of any day is perfect for a wished countryside lunch. Fresh vegetables and delicate sauces dance around all kinds of meats. Cous-cous, hummus, jalapeño, tortilla, miso, shiitake, tamarind, coconut milk, pasta, and Italian cheeses, among others, show up in the right places to enhance, complement, or complete.

Little known hand-picked wines are ready to lift menu choices further.

Inside two 1920s homes furnished with antiques, elegant country tables at their best wait behind the garden for formal lunching or dinning.

Hours of Operation:
Monday: Closed
T-Sat: 11am-9pm, Sun: 12pm-8pm

The crest on the glass door and the busy, colorful interior announce Bavarian eatery.

All salads come with pumpernickel and rye breads. A moment of doubt...Gnocchi and spinach salad sound suspiciously Italian.

But, the soup of the day is called Tagesuppe. Spaetzel, sauerkraut, potatoes, and red cabbage come with most main dishes. Six kinds of Schnitzel. German Sausages have their own menu section. Grandma’s cabbage rolls go by a Kraut Roulade alias. Beers’names are in German.

Uhah! Music, heavy on German polka, comes from the speakers. If Friday or Saturday, live accordion and tuba players get the beer mugs dancing in the outdoors patio called Bier Garten.

This might not be the chestnut trees cladded Munich Biergärten, but it’s as close as anyone can get to robust German meals with all the beer and musical trimmings without leaving Phoenix. This is chef Hoffman’s kitchen and castle, no phony
food chain.

Olive & Ivy’s access is from Marshall Way, off Camelback Rd. That said, this restaurant’s experience starts with entering an impressively large room that seems to extend its size further into another large expanse, the outdoor dining patio.

As guests enter, The Marketplace greets them with fresh baked goods including the breads served at the tables, gelato, sandwiches made to order, drinks, and other treats to be grabbed on the go by customers who prefer a quick meal.

Here is a cool place with all what is expected from a sports grill.

A bar, of course, with projection and plasma screens where all involved follow all kinds of entertainment and sports, cheering and screaming themselves silly over frothy beer and assorted drinks. Good sharing-food anyone can eat with their fingers, bite size burgers being the winners along with smoked wings, chicken wraps and assorted starters to last till the last commentary is said on TV.

Pool tables complete the action next to the bar, sticks hitting and balls rolling.

And that’s not all. FOX has a full menu of well known favorites like luscious ribs, sandwiches, pastas, salads, pizza, and grilled meats that can also be enjoyed in a dining room with a fireplace and no TVs.

Plus, for the ones that prefer the privacy of their own smokes, there is a cigar room waiting with plasma screens.

Total intimacy? In private dining rooms. Drinks to toast oneself or each other? Three well-stocked bars are at the ready, before dinner, after dinner, or with no dinner in the mix.

Daily live entertainment is the unifying feature here. So is artfully presented good all American cuisine, with a twist where needed. New York Gorgonzola Steak and Lobster macaroni and cheese rub elbows with pork chops, rack of lamb, fresh fish, southwest inspired dishes, and other staples.

Modern, sleek, clean cut, urban. A place where daring colors like orange and lime green blend in a tasteful balance with neutral tones. That’s FEZ.

Cooking lab for American fare and Mediterranean flavors. A place for gastronomic adventures and downtown stops for exotic drinks. That’s FEZ too.

Someone could have an All American Burger at FEZ; that is a great one to savor. But, why? The Fez Burger is waiting, with its cinnamon pears, feta, aioli, honey molasses BBQ, and cilantro trimmings added to lettuce and onions. The Tangier Burger is also in line for your picking, smothered in humus and pesto, crowned with manchego cheese. And the list goes on.

Aioli and hummus, spices and garlic are all over the menu. This is a place for romancing the food. Forget about kisses.
